[13:28] Catharina Jacobus: Yes, we give the ideas and Ronnie builds it :-)

[13:32] Raphory Repine: maybe some notecard givers when you clic on panels with screenshots, notecards with links to websites and some introductions to linux
[13:32] Catharina Jacobus: Yes I got it; very nice but not free

[13:32] Maja McBride: Is it possible to create a linux-liveshow? Like what these guys do for apple in the stores right now?
[13:32] Catharina Jacobus: Yes, that is true... the difficulties will be the seats

[13:33] Ronnie Fargis: too bad SL doesnt text on a prim-texture

[13:34] Maja McBride: They sit in all German media markets and show, what OSX can do cmpared to M$
[13:35] Maja McBride: Like showing all the functionality of in this case linux - gimp, OO etc. etc.? On a screen.
[13:35] Ronnie Fargis: yes, sounds good
[13:35] Catharina Jacobus: sounds nice, but complicated
[13:35] Maja McBride: I guessed so! Just an idea...
[13:36] Catharina Jacobus: I am not a builder so I don't know how complicated it is

[13:37] Catharina Jacobus: Anyway it is a good idea to look at Apple's marketing because they are very good at that
[13:37] Maja McBride: Well you could record a movie from your desktop. Is it possible to play that in SL?
[13:37] Ronnie Fargis: MS is good at that too, but i don like the way how

[13:38] Catharina Jacobus: hmmm video stll does not work in Linux as far as I know
[13:38] Ronnie Fargis: then you need to stream it with an server

[13:39] Raphory Repine: We can grab a FLV video from Youtube, showing some Compiz effects for example, but we have to encode it in QT, and stream it somewhere on the web, so that it's possible to show it in SL

[13:40] Raphory Repine: there are lots of Youtube videos that show how great can be Linux
[13:40] Catharina Jacobus: Yes
[13:40] Raphory Repine: Yes it can be done, there are tools for that
[13:40] Ronnie Fargis: yes, the developer previews are usually good
[13:40] Raphory Repine: but we need some space on the web to upload the QT videos

[13:42] Raphory Repine: Nope, we can use a video set with a blue menu for example, so you can switch from one video to another one
[13:42] Maja McBride: Oh, okay!
[13:42] Ronnie Fargis: yes, i can make such a script
[13:42] Catharina Jacobus: great
[13:42] Catharina Jacobus: And then we can watch them on Linux too?
[13:42] Ronnie Fargis: i think at least, if LSL can set the url

[13:43] Raphory Repine: there is already a "freeplayer" that do tahat I guess, and you have to add the streams in a notecard you slide inside it
[13:43] Ronnie Fargis: if the SL client doesnt support video
[13:43] Ronnie Fargis: ok, is that script open?
[13:43] Ronnie Fargis: and free?
[13:44] Raphory Repine: I'm not sure we can see it in the Linux client, but the point is to advocate linux for windows & apple users, right? :)

[13:45] Raphory Repine: Ronnie, I don't know if it's opensource or not, I think it is, but I'll have to check it (never really used this stuff, I just bought another one preloaded with programs already)

[13:47] Ronnie Fargis: because if ppl swith they expect everything shoud work
[13:47] Raphory Repine: yep, with Linux I can't play my DRM music, it's such a shame, I'm forced to use aMule

[13:49] Ronnie Fargis: you can not run all prgramms
[13:49] Raphory Repine: Maybe we could create some panels with screenshots of the linux alternatives to famous windows progams. People want to actually see what is "inside linux": Pidgin instead of MSN, Gimp instead of Photoshop, OpenOffice.Org instead of MS Word, etc.
[13:50] Catharina Jacobus: True, but the are not really disadvanges of Linux but of propriety stuff
[13:50] Ronnie Fargis: thats a great ideA
[13:50] Maja McBride: That's what I meant!!! If somehow possible animated.
[13:50] Catharina Jacobus: Yes, nice
[13:50] Ronnie Fargis: that can be explained too, but thats not always important for the enduser
[13:51] Ronnie Fargis: its possible to swith a texture each x seconds
[13:51] Raphory Repine: I'm sure we won't even have to make the screenshots ourselves, we can grab the ones from the websites of the applications I guess
[13:51] Ronnie Fargis: i guess too...
[13:51] Maja McBride: Possibly with a sort of dummy-atavar, who explains a few things?
[13:51] Catharina Jacobus: We should also profit in some way from that Vista is so bad and people want to stick to their XP, which is from 1991!

[13:51] Raphory Repine: It's even possible to have one panel in which there is a slideshow of different pics (textures), and you can specify the timing
[13:52] Ronnie Fargis: thats possible too
[13:52] Raphory Repine: And I'm quite sure this slideshow panel (I used it a lot for my original photographs) is already an opensource product

[13:57] Raphory Repine: could someone grab from the net (maybe wikipedia?), some short biographies of important people from the free world? Torvalds, Stallman, the guy from Ubuntu, etc.
[13:57] Catharina Jacobus: If you add new ideas, we can discuss them in next meeting

[13:58] Raphory Repine: The idea would be to have panels with their pictures, and the text under it or in notecards given when you clic it. So people would learn who's who, and how sympathetic and cool are the free software gurus :)
